Fitness Skates, Fitness Inline Skates

Get fit, get healthy, get skates! And have the time of your life while you’re doing it.

Skating of any kind is an excellent form of fitness for you, exercising muscles you never knew you had, keeping your heart pumping at a healthy rate, and even assisting the mind to function more healthily.

There is such a huge variety of adult and children’s fitness skates within various categories including roller skates, fitness inline skates, rollerblades, and aggressive skates. Skating with any of these fitness skates, in any form, can only do you good – and to top it all, it provides a free and eco-friendly mode of transport.

Skating for fitness with fitness skates or inline fitness skates is a fun activity that improves your overall health and, unlike running or jogging, does not negatively impact on your joints and muscles. And what’s more ladies, you can shed many pounds simply by hitting the road in your inline fitness skates or your fitness skates.

Roller skating has progressed over the years from a leisure time activity to a sport and fitness activity – all wrapped up in a coating of fun. This is due largely to the enjoyment skaters gain from skating as well as the health benefits they see.

A proud heart
With fitness skates or inline fitness skates strapped to your feet you can do your heart proud as the American Heart Association recommends fitness skating as an aerobic fitness sport. Taking long strides in your inline fitness skates or fitness skates can increase your heart rate still further and strengthen your back muscles simultaneously.

Health benefits
If you decide to invest in your health and buy a pair of fitness skates or inline fitness skates you will directly be:

  • Lowering your blood pressure
  • Lowering cholesterol
  • Reducing stress
  • Strengthening your bones
  • Developing cardiovascular and muscular endurance
  • Reducing your chances of cardiovascular disease
  • Burning calories

Added to this is the improved muscle tone you will see, particularly in the hips, thighs and buttocks areas.

In a half hour session skating at an average rate in your inline fitness skates or your fitness skates you can burn up 285 calories and can produce a heart rate of 148 beats a minute.

Wide range of skates
At Skates.co.uk we have a huge selection of fitness skates and the inline fitness skates for you to choose from. With an abundance of sport played on skates, there’s a choice for every occasion. Added to this is the fashion angle where by changing stoppers and wheel colour designs, you can almost choose your inline fitness skates or fitness skates as a custom made pair! A popular aesthetic variation is to replace your wheels with wheels that light up, making you the coolest skater on the block.

Inline fitness skates, like other inline skates, have three, four or even five wheels arranged in single line. Hence the name ‘inline’.

As opposed to recreational skates where the boots are often made from synthetic materials, fitness skates used for sports such as hockey are mostly made from a leather combination to allow for added flexibility. However, every boot we sell offers superior support for safety reasons. Some inline fitness skates and fitness skates have reinforcing in the toe and sides areas.

Braking systems for skates vary from one manufacturer to another, but generally theses stoppers are situated at the back of one of the skates. But when it comes to hockey inline fitness skates and other similar fitness skates, these lines don’t usually have any braking systems. The same applies to skates for speed skating.

Not only is our range of fitness skates and inline fitness skates extensive, but so too are our ranges of skates for other uses, including recreational. Coupled with this, our prices are excellent too.

The soft boot design was introduced to the market by K2 Inc., a sports company, around the mid 1990s. Its introduction was primarily to target skaters looking for fitness skates.

If you are intending to skate for fitness purposes, more so than regular fitness recreational skating can give you, there are various disciplines which you could get involved in.

Sports and skates
Artistic skating, although mostly skated using quad skates, some events are on inline fitness skates. In figure skating, skaters manoeuvres are performed around a series of circles or ovals in order to show control and accuracy. In dance, skaters are judged on their dance performance which, while choreographed to music, must include skills, style and performance. Other categories include freestyle, precision teams, hockey, inline speed skating, free skating and aggressive skating.

But without necessarily wanting to take up a skate sport, you can quickly and easily increase the aerobic benefits to your body by putting that extra effort into your skating, really pushing yourself. Skating up a hill is ideal for this, but only attempt this when you can safely return down the hill!

Participate in a lot of long distance skating but at a steady speed. This will improve endurance. Frequent long distance skating will also strengthen pelvic, hip and thigh muscles. Your back and abdomen muscles will automatically strengthen simply by you using your balance on the skates.

Early day skates vs modern day skates
How far we have come from the skates invented in yesteryear! Far… but still fairly close to the basic design of our many variations of skates today.

Following the first recorded use of a crude pair of roller skates back in 1743, the first recorded invention of the roller skate was recorded in 1760 with a very primitive inline skate with metal wheels. By 1819 France’s M.Petitbled these early skates were well on track to our modern day roller skate designs. But thank heavens today’s skates are designed for speed, manoeuvrability, performing tricks and gracing our tender feet with great comfort.
