Rollerblading is a very challenging sport, both physically and mentally. Rollerbladers must be disciplined in their sport and so it is important for anyone who participates in using their roller blades in public to abide by a few courteous rules of etiquette.
One of the first rules of rollerblading etiquette is very simple; you should not show off. Practising is fine and so is sharing your skills with fellow skaters, but you should never do this in a way which suggests you are showing off and think yourself to be better than the other skaters.
Another vital rule of skating etiquette is to respect the space of other skaters. It is very rude to just roller skate wherever you like no matter what is going on around you. You should give other skaters enough room to do their thing too without invading their space. You should also avoid being greedy with space and try not to hoard a good skating space all of the time.
You should always avoid rollerblading in private areas or areas which are generally quiet. People in these places expect some privacy in their lives and would appreciate peace and quiet. It is unfair to skate around making a noise in places where it intrudes into the personal lives of others. Always be considerate of other people’s needs when skating and always wear protection, available here at Skates, to minimise accidents for both you and other skaters. We offer a wide range of roller skates and protective gear for all levels.

Firstly, you should get a pair of roller blades which fit you well. Make sure that your skates do not wobble off to the sides and you should ensure that your feet do not slip in the roller blades. You should wear elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet. We have a wide range at Skates. Safety is the most important consideration when you start rollerblading. If you are unsure of yourself the first time you put your skates on, try skating on the carpet at home or on grass until you are used to the feel of the skates under your feet.
Once you are comfortable with your new roller skates, you should try them out on the pavement. Try to find as smooth an area as possible to skate on. Finding a place free from obstacles might also be a good idea until you are more used to skating.
Many people practice ways of falling safely when they first take up skating. If you have to fall when out on your roller blades, it is always better to fall forwards onto your knee pads and wrist guards. You should also try to impact on an angle rather than falling straight down as this will be less likely to injure your wrists severely.
To skate well, you should start by having one of your feet straight and then push off from it with your other foot. Practice turning and balancing until you have the moves mastered. Start slowly until you have had a little practice.
You should learn as many different ways of braking as possible. You can, of course, use your roller skates0′ brake to stop, but other ways include dragging your foot or turning into a hill.

There are certain techniques and postures which you must learn in order to become a speedy and proficient skater. You should work on each technique separately and one you have mastered them, you will be apple to use your roller blades to skate at top speeds.
The seated position is one of the most important to master. Whilst skating, you should enter a low position by bending your knees and keeping your bottom low, so, it looks like you are sitting down on a chair. Your knees should be positioned directly over your toes and your hips should be neatly positioned over your ankles.
The main goal when skating for speed is to move forward, so even though it might feel right for you to push back when you stride, this is the incorrect way to do things. The correct way to push when speed skating is to push to the side, ensuring that all of your wheels are in contact with the ground and then, push so that your leg is fully extended before lifting all of your wheels off the ground.
Whilst you skate, you should try to hold your weight over your support leg, holding your nose over your toes. You should swing your arms and legs back and forth quickly at an angle of roughly 45 degrees. Avoid bringing your hands above your head as this can cause you to bob.
If you follow these rules and invest in a decent pair of inline skates, like the ones here at Skates, you will be skating along faster than you ever have before in no time.

Skating on roads can be a lot of fun and can take you anywhere you want to go much quickly than walking. Plus it’s a lot more fun strapping on your inline skates than it is hopping on a bus to get where you need to be. However, it would be silly not to think of the potential dangers which may be involved. Drivers and cyclists are well versed in the rules of the road, but, most skaters will not have the same level of knowledge when it comes to travelling on roads with roller blades.
You must always remember to use signals before you turn to alert other road users to your intentions. Drivers and pedestrians will react kindly to the forewarning and maintain a safe distance from you.
Keep your wits about you at all times. Stay alert and keep your eyes on the road. Look in all directions to ensure you are safe from any hazards you may encounter on the road. Listen for approaching cars and never use personal mp3 players whilst skating on the road, as they are very distracting and dull your senses to what is going on.
Wear high visibility clothing during the day so that all vehicles can clearly see you. If you are out skating at night, you may want to wear lights. Always wear helmets and other protection, available here at Skates, so that you are protected as much as possible if anything does go wrong.

Roller blades come in several different types which depend on the skaters and their own individual skating style. When choosing a pair of rollerblades from Skates, you should consider your age, skating style and your skating ability. If you are an aggressive skater who does lots of tricks with rails and jumps, a high hard boot which has smaller wheels would be best, for example.
Aggressive skating is an extreme sport because of the danger element involved. Using your rollerblades for extreme sports requires you to have very good skating skills and a decent pair of sturdy roller blades too. Buying skates with wheels and bearings which are easy to change, is a must have for all extreme skaters, as is a comfortable pair of skates. Having aggressive skates which have grind plates and bearings which resist dirt and dents is also a good idea.
Recreational rollerblades are more for general use and are ideal for beginners. They are known for their excellent levels of comfort and durability. They are often mistaken for fitness skates, but, in actual fact, they are not the same thing. Fitness skates are more expensive than a recreational pair and are made from a much more durable material. They are great for regular skaters who use skating as part of their exercise routine.
Speed skates are, of course, roller blades which are designed to be used at high speeds. They are great for sports such as hockey and are made for greater manoeuvrability so are excellent for racing purposes.

Roller skates have always been great fun, but, they are about to get even more so with the re-emergence of the popular 80s roller disco. The interest in roller discos has been increasing steadily for the past couple of years in the UK, prompting clubs and sports centres to bring back roller disco nights ever more regularly.
Roller discos have always been popular with those who opt to have their birthday party at a roller rink, but, the new up and coming trend is to hold roller disco events in nightclubs where the over 18s can come along and skate until their heart is content. Roller discos really are taking off in a big way this year as people come to realize just how much fun they can have skating around to their favourite songs. So get yourself a nice new pair of roller skates, we have a great range here at Skates and get yourself down to the nearest disco where you are guaranteed to have a good time and forget about all your worries as you are catapulted back to the 80s.
There is nothing quite like skating to music and it is also a great way to meet people and makes a nice change from the usual nightclub experience where you are packed into a small place with a sticky floor for the duration of the evening. It’s great exercise too and will alleviate any symptoms of stress as soon as the first cheesy pop number starts to play.

Athletes use visualisation all the time in order to improve their performance. Before they even set foot out on the track, they have visualised how they will run the course and win. They practice in their minds, the perfect way of winning. There is no reason why you cannot do the same when using your roller blades, after all, if it’s good enough for top athletes we at Skates aren’t going to knock it.
If you take visualisation seriously, your mind becomes more active and will respond as though you are actually partaking in the activity you are visualising. Even the part of the brain responsible for controlling the muscles comes into action, so visualising can even improve the way your muscles work. This means that you can make improvements to your skating before you even put the roller skates on and roll out of the house.
When visualising, you should find a quiet spot to relax in and close your eyes. Take deep breaths and think about the place where you skate. Visualise yourself moving along in your inline skates; you are skating better than you ever have before. Watch yourself pulling off excellent tricks, perfectly. Convince your mind that you can perform these moves easily without even trying. If you do this for a few minutes every day you will almost certainly see an improvement in your skating when you get out there on your blades for real and everyone will wonder how you did it so easily.

Balancing properly on roller blades is something that most people do not take seriously and they spend little time working on their balance as a result. However, balancing well on your skates is the key to doing everything else well on your roller skates. Balance is particularly important if you are planning to skate at a high speed.
To skate fast you must skate with only one foot on the ground at any time and this requires excellent balancing skills. Freestyle skating moves also rely heavily on weight shifts and good balance, so, if you do not work on your balancing you will never be able to perform tricks to a really high standard.
It is possible to improve your balance both on and off inline skates. Yoga is one of the best ways to improve balance when not using roller blades. Standing on one leg is also an excellent way of improving balance. If you own a wobble board, working out on that for a few minutes each day will significantly improve your balance.
If you would prefer to improve your balance using inline skates, there are a few things you can do. Scooters are a combo drill which uses one foot to maintain and helps to improve balance. Toe rolls are also a great way of improving your balance whilst skating and should be practised often. Buying a good well fitting pair of skates like the ones we have here at Skates, will help you a lot with your footing, thus making it much easier to balance.

Becoming a member of a skating club is a great way of meeting other people who share your interest. You can make new friends to train and socialize with, as well as, finding out new techniques and ideas which you may never have considered before. If you find a good skating club, you will see your skating improving in no time.
Skating clubs are the perfect place to train in a safe environment with professionals who are able to assist you in mastering your inline skates. You will have so much more fun using your roller blades if you are around like-minded people who enjoy skating as much as you do.
Skating clubs are great places to find coaches who will help you to improve your skills no matter what level you are at. Skating lessons are usually offered on a group basis, but, private one to one sessions are increasingly available and can really help improve technique on your inline skates.
Skating sessions are often divided into groups whether it be by age or ability, skating with your peers who are at the same level as you, is a great way to build confidence; not to mention the friends you will make. The friends you make at a skating club will encourage you to excel and you could even find a skate buddy. You may also meet people who will get you into all kinds of skate based activities that you had not even considered before.
Skating clubs are generally quite cheap once you have bought all of your equipment. Here at Skates, we have a wide range of skating equipment, suitable for all skating needs.

One of the best things about rollerblading is that you do not require any particularly great skills or strength. You can also do it just about anywhere where there is a smooth open space and all ages can participate and have fun. That being said, there are a few things that you can do which will help you to be a better skater and succeed where others have failed. Here are our tips for using roller blades.
If you are a skater, strong and flexible knees will help you a lot. Doing exercises which strengthen the knees, such as yoga, are great for skaters and will help them to progress to the next level in terms of using their roller blades.
Practice walking in a straight line whilst maintaining a strong posture. This will help to improve your balance, which is a vital aspect of rollerblading and will help you to fall over less when you start out.
Seek out as many places as you can to skate. Look for local facilities such as sports centres, cycle paths, parks or skate parks and visit them regularly to practice. As well as practising, you can watch other skaters and learn a lot about technique.
Sports such as gymnastics and dancing will help you to be a better skater as they will improve your balance and overall flexibility. Standing on one foot for a period of time also helps to develop motor neurone skills which will in turn help you skate more evenly.
Finally, try not to think about falling too much as this can distract you and will, in actual fact, make you more likely to fall over or otherwise injure yourself and remember to always wear protection, available here at Skates to ensure you will be safe if you do fall.
