The British Figure Skating Championship will see eight of the best skaters from East Kilbride Ice Rink after putting on some wonderful performances in order to qualify for the event. There will also be skaters from Olympia joining them at the event which will take place from the 12th to the 16th of January.

The event will display the talents of a mixture of girls and boys whose ice skating performances excelled at the IJS events. All the participants have had a good run all through the previous year to make their performances stand out. The event will reflect all the weeks of hard work put in by the ice skaters and their coaches.

The ice skaters who have been selected for the event are extremely grateful for the opportunity and were keen on thanking the East Kilbride and Olympia clubs for the constant encouragement they have given them. They are also grateful for the fund raisers and hard work that has helped them reach the various championships.

In order to defend themselves, the organisers of Cheltenham’s ice skating rink said that their ice skating rink was environmentally friendly and cheaper compared to Gloucester. They believed that they bring in money into the local economy and are not underwritten by the council tax payers’ money.

Gloucester City Council Leader Paul James said that since they had a real ice skating rink for the past four years their skaters didn’t need to put up with plastic imitations, making the ice skating rink extremely popular. He also added the news of arrangement cancellations taking place at Cheltenham in order to be able to visit the Gloucester ice skating rink.

John Rhodes, one of the organisers of the Cheltenham ice skating rink said that their artificial ice skating rink was a private enterprise that was run by the council for a certain cost. This not only generates employment, but also brings money into the local economy.

Besides this, he also mentioned that the rates of the Gloucester ice skating rink tickets were far more expensive compared to their ticket rates.

Almost 3,000 children will enjoy the fun of skating in this 18th century setting during the 10 weeks of this season. New audiences have always been welcomed by the Somerset House Trust to get a taste of winter at its best.

A training rink for beginners of all ages has also been made available by the Somerset House Skate School, under their patron Jayne Torvill. This safe place is also made use of for the gathering of the Penguin Club.

The Penguin Club has been developed to ensure the safety of the children on the ice skating rink. It helps ensure an enjoyable rather than terrifying experience. Melissa, an instructor on the ice skating rink said that when a child manages to complete a couple of laps on the ice skating rink they always come back for more.

They are taught how to stop and pick themselves up without touching the ice during a sudden fall. This makes these children brave, leading them to move away on their own.

After a tiring and fun filled day, the children are given a souvenir badge of the Penguin Club.

On Saturday morning Kirklees Council opened up the temporary ice skating rink for the children.
Volunteers from Greenhead College and staff from Huddersfield Actionnaires helped them move around the ice skating rink. The national charity, Action for Blind People is a multi sports club for partially and completely blind children and young people. They also run the Huddersfield Actionnaires.

The deputy sports manager for the Action for Blind People, Lesley Inganni stated that they are very grateful to the council for making this day possible for the children. She also said that if it was not for the council that allowed them to make complete use of the ice skating rink, a public session like this would not have been possible.

This is not the first time that the council has made this possible for the club. This has been possible for many years now and it is something that the children eagerly anticipate every year.

Even though the Cotswolds does not have its own ice skating rink, its residents and visitors will not find the need to travel far this year, as the Birbury Court Hotel is set to celebrate a Christmas Skating Extravaganza on the 20th and 21st of December.

The much awaited ice skating rink will be set up on the croquet lawn of the hotel and will remain there throughout the weekend, catering to the festive fun of its users. Visitors will also be able to enjoy mulled wine, toffee apples and roasted chestnuts. They may also get a chance to meet Santa and a well-deserved half-hour session on the ice.

A magical sky lantern will also be lit up at five in the evening on both days. This lantern will have a list of children’s messages to Santa that will be personally written by them before soaring off to Lapland. This lantern will aid the Make a Wish Foundation.

Traders and shopkeepers belonging to East London’s famous Roman Road market are using this opportunity to warm up during this festive season.

Many of the traders, especially those who were having a hard time due to the winter credit crunch hoped that this ice skating would avoid a freeze on spending. The shoppers also enjoyed a treat of mince pies, mulled wine and a chorus performing Christmas Carols, organised by the school.

The kids also got to enjoy themselves, especially when Titan the Robot showed up at Chrisp Street Market to switch on the Christmas lights.

Shoppers over here enjoyed some entertaining fire juggling and street performances. They even got mince pies and hot drinks to help them fight the cold.

Many youngsters and youth from various schools got together to sing a few Christmas carols.

Rumors of Father Christmas visiting Chrisp Street on the 20th of December have been going around. He also plans on giving free rides across the market.
