Norwich’s Ice Experience hit by floods

August 18, 2008

The ice rink in Norwich is used to having a lot of water inside, but only frozen. The heavy rain last week left the Ice Experience ice rink flooded with a foot high of water and a huge insurance claim to be made.

The popular ice rink which is used by more than fifty skaters in the area had to be evacuated by the fire brigade.

The ice in the rink was untouched by water as it was on a higher level, but the remaining areas like offices, cafes and shops around the ice rink were all submerged under water.

The flooding meant that the power supply to the rink and the neighbouring sports club and hotel had to be turned off. The ice in the rink was safe and did not melt as it is on a separate generator.

The entire reception area was flooded with water and there were some new ice skates that went under water too. It took the fire engines several hours to pump out the water from the rink.

This is the holiday season and a lot of ice skaters had come down to the ice skating rink for skating. They were disappointed as they could not enjoy ice skating on the weekend.

The people at the ice skating rink were trying to reopen it as soon as possible.
