Why buy Independent Indy Trucks?

Q

Why choose Independent trucks?

A

Independent trucks are renowned for their strength, turning response and iconic design. They’re trusted by pros and amateurs alike for consistent performance in street and park skating.

Q

What’s the difference between forged and cast Indys?

A

Forged trucks use a forging process to create lighter and stronger hangers and baseplates. Cast trucks are poured into molds and offer durability at a lower price. Both provide excellent performance, but forged models are slightly lighter and stronger.

Q

How do I select the right truck width?

A

Match the truck’s axle length to your deck width. For example, a deck between 7.75–8.0 inches typically pairs with 129 or 139 Indy trucks, while 8.25–8.5 inch decks pair with 144 or 149 trucks.

Q

What is the height difference in Indy trucks?

A

Independent offers standard and low versions. Standard trucks provide more clearance for wheels and are better for bowl or vert skating. Low trucks lower your centre of gravity, making flip tricks easier but requiring smaller wheels.

Q

Do Independent trucks need a break‑in period?

A

Yes. New bushings are stiff at first. After a few hours of skating, the bushings soften, delivering the smooth turning Indys are known for. You can also upgrade bushings to customise the feel.

Q

Can I use riser pads with Indys?

A

If you want to avoid wheel bite when using larger wheels, riser pads can be installed between the baseplate and deck. This lifts the deck slightly to provide more clearance.

Q

How do I maintain my trucks?

A

Check and tighten kingpin and axle nuts regularly, replace bushings when cracked or flattened and keep the baseplate screws secure. Lubricate pivot cups occasionally for smoother turning.

Q

Do Independent trucks come with hardware?

A

Trucks are sold in pairs without mounting bolts. You’ll need eight skateboard bolts and nuts to attach them to your deck, which can be purchased separately.
