History of the Company
In November 2004, the foundations for Skates.co.uk were laid through Flywalk.co.uk, which began by selling a little known product called Heelys.
David, the founder, had received a pair of Heelys that summer as a gift from his family and wherever he went he found himself being asked where these shoes could be purchased. With the support of his family, Flywalk was born, and Heelys began to be sold in the UK. As demand for Heelys grew, so did the company, with his bedroom and 3 garden sheds no longer being suitable accommodation for the demand his company was seeing.
In 2006, the company moved to a small warehouse on the outskirts of Southampton, where it continued to rapidly expand. Before long, the business was running from 3 small warehouses.
Then in 2007, Skates.co.uk was launched, starting with just a small range of inline and roller skates, as well as foldable scooters. Our website began to gradually find more demand, and over the next 2 years expand, with our ranges increased to cater for the increased demand in our products.
In 2009, the company moved premises to a 8000 sq/ft warehouse, and began to roll out more product lines to cater for customer requests, including a gradual increase in demand for scooters, particularly those designed for stunts. Then, in 2010, the birth of stunt scootering really began to take place with the launch of the Madd, Slamm and Grit brands to go alongside the already established Razor.
2011 has seen huge growth for Skates.co.uk, with fast growing demand particularly with the huge demand for stunt scooters resulting in our team rapidly expanding to over 50 members of staff.
Moving closer to 2021, the company continues to grow, and runs a range of skates products, with a close knit family culture not lost in the way the business is operated and run.
