Fixing Stunt Scooter Problems

If your stunt scooter isn't performing well or seems faulty, don't panic! Before reaching out to us, follow this straightforward troubleshooting guide. We've gathered expert solutions to the most common scooter problems riders experience.

Rounded Axle or Clamp Bolts

This usually happens when bolts are overtightened or the wrong tools are used.

Solution:

  • Always use correctly sized tools (allen keys/spanners).
  • Avoid overtightening bolts.
  • If bolts are already rounded, watch this tutorial.

Wheels Out of Alignment

Typically caused by a loose compression bolt.

Solution:

  1. Loosen the clamp and remove the handlebars.
  2. Tighten the compression bolt firmly.
  3. Reassemble bars and clamp tightly.

Noisy or Sticking Headset

Commonly due to dirt, grime, or lack of lubrication.

Solution:

  • Disassemble the headset.
  • Clean thoroughly and lubricate with scooter-specific grease.
  • Replace if severely worn.

Wheel Issues: Flat Spots, Chunking, Dehubbing

Commonly caused by aggressive riding techniques or heavy braking.

Flat Spots Solution:

  • Avoid excessive or aggressive braking.
  • Replace wheel; flat spots aren't covered under warranty.

Chunking Solution:

  • Improve riding technique to reduce twisting forces upon landing.
  • Replace wheel; chunking isn't covered under warranty.

Dehubbing Solution:

Slow or Loud Wheel Bearings

Usually caused by dirt or water ingress.

Solution:

  • Remove bearings carefully, clean, and lubricate.
  • Replace if damaged; avoiding wet or muddy riding conditions helps extend lifespan.

Worn or Broken Brakes

Primarily caused by excessive or intense braking.

Solution:

  • Minimize braking intensity; use brakes only when necessary.
  • Replace worn brakes.

Damaged or Worn Griptape

Naturally wears over time due to riding.

Solution:

  • Replace regularly for safety and grip.
  • Keep griptape dry and firmly stuck to the deck.

Worn or Damaged Bar Grips

Grips naturally degrade with regular use.

Solution:

  • Replace grips regularly for safety.
  • Remove old grips with WD40 or hairspray.

Bent or Broken Scooter Bars

Usually caused by heavy impacts or incorrect setup.

Solution:

  • Ensure the correct clamp and bar size combination.
  • Choose stronger materials (Steel or Titanium) for heavy riding.
  • Replace or shorten bars as needed.

Cracked or Broken Scooter Deck

Heavy tricks and aggressive riding cause stress fractures.

Solution:

  • Soften landings and grinds to reduce impact.
  • Replace damaged decks as needed.

Cracked or Chipped Paintwork

Paint damage occurs naturally due to stunt riding.

Solution:

  • Repaint or replace parts; paint damage isn't covered under warranty.

Scooter Part Compatibility

Compatibility is key to scooter performance. Here’s a quick compatibility checklist:

Compression Clamp Bar Type (SLIT required?) Fork Headset Deck Wheels
SCS Standard/Oversized SCS Clamp Standard/Oversized (No slit) SCS Fork Integrated Any 100mm/110mm/120mm
IHC Standard Clamp (Shim if oversized) Standard/Aluminium (Slit) IHC Fork Integrated Any 100mm/110mm/120mm
HIC Oversized Clamp (No Shim) Oversized/HIC Bars (Slit) HIC Fork/Standard + HIC Kit Integrated Any 100mm/110mm/120mm
ICS Standard Clamp Standard Bars (Slit required, Starnut needed) Standard Fork Integrated Any 100mm/110mm/120mm

Note: All grips are generally compatible with bars, except lock-on grips with aluminium bars. Pegs fit most decks and wheels as long as the axle is long enough.
