Longboard Trucks

Longboard trucks connect the wheels to the deck and determine how your board turns. They come in different styles, materials and widths tailored for carving, downhill, freeride or dancing. Choosing the right trucks—reverse kingpin or traditional kingpin, low or high hanger—affects your ride’s stability and responsiveness. For help selecting trucks, see our Skateboard Truck Buying Guide.

Longboard Trucks carry the weight and direction of the deck—this collection includes both reverse kingpin and traditional kingpin designs. Reverse kingpin trucks are favoured for stability and carving while standard ones work better for freestyle or tighter turning. Many models feature durable aluminium alloy hangers, adjustable bushings, and high-quality bushings for smooth angle control. Wider bushing seats increase responsiveness and control at high speeds.

Why buy Longboard Trucks?

Q

What’s the difference between reverse and traditional kingpin trucks?

A

Reverse kingpin trucks (RKP) place the kingpin behind the hanger, offering more turn range and stability at higher speeds. They’re used for cruising, carving, freeride and downhill. Traditional kingpin trucks (TKP) have the kingpin in front, offering a snappier turn, preferred for street and technical skating.

Q

What widths do longboard trucks come in?

A

Common widths range from 150 mm to 184 mm. Match the truck hanger width to your deck width—longboard decks usually require wider trucks (e.g., 180 mm) to keep wheels aligned with the deck edges.

Q

How does baseplate angle affect turning?

A

Higher baseplate angles (45–50°) increase turn sensitivity, ideal for carving and dancing. Lower angles (40° or less) reduce turn sensitivity, adding stability for downhill. Many riders mix angles (e.g., 50° front, 40° rear) to balance agility and stability.

Q

Are precision trucks necessary?

A

Precision trucks are CNC-machined from billet aluminium, offering tighter tolerances and smoother turning. They reduce slop and are preferred by serious downhill racers. Cast trucks are more affordable and suit most riders.

Q

What materials are used?

A

Standard trucks use cast aluminium hangers with steel axles. Higher-end trucks may use forged or CNC-machined aluminium, titanium axles or magnesium. Materials influence weight, durability and price.

Q

How do I install trucks on a drop-through deck?

A

For drop-through decks, remove the baseplate from the hanger. Insert the baseplate through the cutout from below, align the holes and secure with hardware. Then reattach the hanger. Drop-through mounting lowers the ride height for increased stability.

Q

What is rake?

A

Rake refers to the offset between the hanger’s pivot axis and the axle. Positive rake (axle in front) increases turn responsiveness; negative rake reduces it. Rake influences how quickly the truck enters and exits turns.

Q

Do longboard trucks require bushings?

A

Yes. Trucks include stock bushings, but swapping them for aftermarket ones changes how the truck turns. Combine bushings with the right washers to fine-tune responsiveness.
